Volunteers’ Week 1-7 June 2019: Celebrating local volunteering

Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution that millions of volunteers make across the UK – and it’s taking place from the 1-7 June 2019.

Volunteers are central to the work of many charities and organisations, and have a valuable presence in communities. Volunteers’ Week is the perfect opportunity to recognise volunteers who put their time, energy and enthusiasm into helping others, whether it’s clearing out a local park, or helping with a reading club or food bank, volunteers are the social glue keeping our communities together.

Lourdette Wilks, Volunteer Coordinator for Volunteer Centre Thurrock said “Volunteers week is a great time to begin volunteering and to use your spare time to help others”. It’s a way to give something back to the community, but also benefit from new experiences, make friends, gain skills and most importantly, have fun”.

“It’s important that local organisations and groups who use volunteers recognise the valuable contribution they are making and ensure they say a big thank you to them. They could award their volunteers with certificates, buy lunch or even take their volunteers out”.

ngage, Thurrock CVS, Healthwatch and Thurrock Council will be inviting their volunteers to a celebration event with food and refreshments, in The Beehive were, they will be thanked personally for their efforts throughout the year and presented with Certificates of Recognition by a special guest.

Volunteers Week is a national celebration of volunteers and volunteering. Everyone is invited to get involved.  For more information about volunteering contact Lourdette on 01375 389853 or visit: www.ngagethurrock.org.uk.
