Purfleet-on-Thames Community Forum have been very busy over the past couple of weeks painting the boat sculpture on Stonehouse Roundabout which they funded and installed 10 years ago.
It was the desire of the community then to see a feature on the roundabout to mark an entrance and give a welcome to Purfleet and show the area’s link with the river.
Purfleet has recently changed to it’s new name, Purfleet-on-Thames, which also confirms its link with the river. The Community Forum felt this would be the perfect timing to reaffirm the welcome, this time with the new name. The group chose bright and cheery colours to give a friendly greeting to this up and coming area.
Trevor Batchelor, Vice Chair of the forum said “After nudging the name change over the line in July I was pleased to have been involved with this boat project on Stonehouse Roundabout. Many hoots from lorry drivers over the past two weeks show the boat is very noticeable. We have a new name, we have a new welcome, just waiting for the new Purfleet-on-Thames.”
