Community Health Champions hold Health, Faith and Wellbeing Event

We caught up with Sarah Kimble, Community Health Champion, to hear about the Beacon Center Event which was held on the 19th November.

Sarah Kimble, CHC said “The Health, Faith and Wellbeing event was a big success! Serving the community of South Chafford, the Beacon Centre includes the Church of All Saints, where Rev Kate Carter was also in attendance and joined in the fun.

“The day was FREE for all, and we saw over 170 people attend. Throughout the day we handed out 115 free lunches, as well as refreshments and 26 Covid-19 vaccines.

“Attendees also enjoyed taking part in numerous free Pilate sessions, etched several bikes via the cycle hub based in Tilbury, and engaged with local services such as mental health advice (Inclusion), local running clubs, local children’s mental health clubs (mindful mole) and drug and alcohol advice (HOPE UK). Free health checks were also popular and over 6 people had their MOT, with 3 future appointments given for suitable times in the future.

“It was great to see the Health Champions team, Healthwatch Thurrock, local Food Network Coordinator, Community Builders and LAC attending the day offering their support and resources to visitors.

“Entertainment during the day included a brilliant local pianist, free hand massages, an amazing face painter, as well as talented Lithuanian singers by Pepi Pop directed by Erika Janciauskiene who were all amazing and made the day very special.

“The day was funded from the national Community Vaccine Champions (CVC) scheme fund, distributed via Thurrock CVS Vaccine Fund. We’d like to thank everyone that came along! “
