What is Modern Slavery?

Many forms of modern day slavery are often difficult to spot but forced marriage, domestic servitude, human trafficking or even debt bondage, where a person is forced to work for free to pay off a debt, sadly continue to exist in our communities.
Other times, you may unknowingly come into contact with someone who is forced into slavery. Whilst those who work more traditionally labour-intensive roles, such as at a car wash, local shop or a nail salon, may appear content, there is a chance they are being subjected to forced labour
In Thurrock, we worked together to raise awareness of this issue. This includes hosting online training sessions and pop-up events to raise awareness in the community.

How to report?
If you think someone is a victim of modern slavery, call Essex Police on 101 or report online. You can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the 24-hour Modern Slavery Helpline on 0800 012 1700.
