Environmental & Sustainability workshop success

Thurrock CVS held an Environmental & Sustainability workshop recently to help organisations become more environmentally aware and to learn how to strengthen an organisation’s environmental, social, and financial sustainability.

Jacqui Payne and Mark Tebbs, Thurrock CVS, spoke about the journey that CVS had undertaken in becoming more environmentally sustainable, including the recent success with a VCSE Energy efficiency grant, which has enabled CVS to make improvements to the Beehive resource centre, including the installation of solar panels, a hot and cold air source, and LED lighting, and other initiatives to help reduce our organisation’s carbon footprint.

Gary Crooks, Thurrock Council, gave a presentation on how organisations can save energy and spoke about success stories of businesses that have considerably reduced their finances by making improvements. This was then discussed in smaller breakout groups on how others could consider improvements.
Omar Al-Amin, from Essex County Council, then talked about Community Energy, where people and communities are taking democratic control over their energy future through understanding, generating, using, owning, and saving energy in their communities.
Danny Olsson, Community Energy South (CES), then followed with his presentation on how CES can support communities in helping to build group infrastructure through funding, organisational training, outreach, recruitment, and a bespoke advisor training programme. Overall, this was a great session with the sector and will be run again online in January 2025.

If you are interested in becoming more environmentally sustainable, come along to the online session. Here is a link to some green energy grants & funding. Green Energy funding opportunities.

Thurrock CVS will continue exploring environmental & sustainability support with and for the sector, so if you missed this workshop, hopefully you can join it in 2025.
