Our Role

What the Volunteer Centre does

Volunteer Centre Thurrock is the borough's dedicated infrastructure service for volunteering. We support both sides of the volunteering relationship, connecting local residents with meaningful roles, and helping organisations recruit, manage and recognise their volunteers well.

  • Promote volunteering opportunities across Thurrock
  • Advise organisations on volunteer management
  • Celebrate volunteers through awards and stories
  • Match volunteers with the right roles
  • Champion good practice and safeguarding
  • Represent volunteering at a borough level
Quality Standard

Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA)

Thurrock CVS holds the Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA), the national quality standard awarded by NAVCA (National Association for Voluntary and Community Action).

This accreditation shows we're serious about delivering high-quality support for volunteers and voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations across Thurrock. It recognises the professionalism and impact of our Volunteer Centre, and the vital role volunteering plays in strengthening local communities.

We achieved accreditation after a rigorous assessment, including feedback from volunteers and local organisations.

What the VCQA covers

The accreditation is awarded against five core functions:

Brokerage

Connecting people with the right volunteering opportunities.

Good practice development

Helping organisations manage volunteers well.

Volunteer development

Supporting volunteers to build skills and confidence.

Strategic development

Championing volunteering across Thurrock.

Voice

Representing the interests of volunteers and the groups they support.

What this means for you

Holding the VCQA means you can trust us to provide an accessible, inclusive and professional volunteering service. We work with volunteers, community groups and local organisations every day to create opportunities that make a real difference across Thurrock.
