Reach Out for Mental Health are looking to recruit more volunteer befrienders and next week they will be holding zoom information sessions for anyone who may be interested in volunteering with them.
The role of volunteer befriender role is very rewarding and we only ask for one hour per week but of course if the volunteer would like to offer more than one hour that is always welcomed. The volunteer befriender role can be carried out in a number of ways. The befriending can be carried out over the phone, face to face or walk and talk sessions. ROFMH would also would like to open more coffee afternoons across Essex and hope to recruit some new volunteers to help with this too.
All volunteers will receive full training in mental health and suicide prevention and all receive a fully paid phone. Once you have finished the training and in post, you will have monthly supervision sessions held by a trained counsellor and ROFMH hold reflection sessions every two weeks for volunteer support and I am always at the other end of the line to offer support.
