Choirs from 8 primary schools across Thurrock and Basildon gave outstanding performances last night at the annual competition ‘Sing for St. Luke’s’, raising over £12,000 for our local Hospice.
The primary school children, all aged under 11 years old, sang two songs to a packed audience at the Towngate Theatre Basildon, including the Basildon Youth Mayor, Charlotte Hedley-Barnes.
Whilst every choir gave fantastic renditions, the winning pupils were from St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School in Grays.
The very hard task of choosing the winners fell to a judging panel of 3 – Jennie Skingsley from Birkett Long LLP, who kindly support the event, Mike Rawlinson Choir Master for the St. Luke’s Hospice Singers and Sarah Linzey, Head of Wellbeing, Information and Supportive Care Services at the Hospice.
Joanna Lucas, Community and Events Fundraising Officer, said: “We cannot thank all the schools enough for taking part this evening and for what must have been hours of dedication to achieve such great performances. All the money raised will support the ongoing provisional of specialist care at St. Luke’s Hospice and we are so grateful. Tonight really has been amazing.”
The schools that took part were; Arthur Bugler Primary School, Greensted Primary School, Harris Primary Academy Mayflower, The Phoenix Primary School & Nursey, Runwell Community Primary School, St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School, The Willows Primary School and Harris Primary Academy Chafford Hundred.
