Gurdwara Health Camp

On Sunday 2nd July, the Community Health Champions were invited to the Grays Gurdwara Sikh Temple by Mr Jassel, their Health Connector, to provide a Health Camp during their Sunday service. We were asked to provide activities that had the potential to pick up long term health conditions that were undiagnosed, such as high blood pressure. Other service were also invited to join us on the day.
Alongside Impulse Leisure, Thurrock Healthwatch and Thurrock Inclusion drug and alcohol services, we organised mini wellbeing checks. Wendy from Impulse Leisure took blood pressures and BMI’s, discussed diet, and lifestyle habits and signposted accordingly. Impulse also gave out free Impulse Leisure day passes encouraging healthy activities. Ben from Thurrock Inclusion gave a presentation around drug and alcohol services and his team interacted with the attendees positively. Healthwatch provided information about their service and signposted where necessary.
There were over 250 Sikh Temple members who attended the Temple between 10am – 2pm.
It was a very busy positive event, we were welcomed, fed and encouraged to interact with all those who attended. There were many families and we spoke to children and adults about health concerns.
The event was warmly welcomed and we have been invited back again. Thank you to all involved.
