‘Let’s Talk about suicide’ information

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 years of age.  That’s more than heart disease, road accidents and cancer.
In fact, a life is lost in the UK every 2 hours through suicide and thousands of us experience suicidal thoughts and feelings every single day and with COVID-19 we are now amid a mental health crisis.

Suicide is a preventable and avoidable death, and we believe everyone should know how to talk and support to someone who is having suicidal thoughts.
Could YOU spot the signs of someone who is struggling with their mental health?
Would YOU know how to have a conversation with someone?
Would YOU feel comfortable saying the word SUICIDE to a loved one or colleague?
Would YOU be able to save a life!

We believe everyone should have the basic knowledge and training in suicide prevention just like you would for choking, drowning or even what to look out for in stroke.
The Let’s Talk About Suicide website was created by Thurrock and Brentwood Mind and the Integrated Care Board in Essex and Hertfordshire as well as offering free suicide prevention training the website contains information on safety plans, charities and organisation’s that can help and wellbeing advice.

The FREE 20-minute suicide prevention training will teach anyone how to spot the signs of someone in crisis, how to say words to them and how to signpost to support.
Every life lost is one too many.  What if the conversation you had with someone was their last?  You may only get one opportunity to save a life.
