Blog 2: A message from the Chair of Stronger Together Thurrock Partnership Board

“This week, I had the opportunity to speak to over 80 council staff as part of Thurrock’s preparations for the upcoming CQC assessment. It was a great moment to highlight the strengths and diversity of our voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector—and to shine a light on the brilliant work being done every day across our communities.

“It also gave space to reflect on how much the sector has achieved and the meaningful impact we continue to have on local people’s lives. Our ability to work in partnership is one of Thurrock’s greatest strengths and something we should all be proud of.

“As conversations continue around system change—including NHS reorganisation and local government reform—I’ve been reflecting on the importance of maintaining a focus on localism. Whatever changes take shape, we must ensure that community-led work is supported, resourced, and respected.

“The recent joint statement from local infrastructure organisations across Essex reinforces this message. It calls for commitment to localism, long-term funding, and genuine partnership—so that the voluntary sector can continue to play a vital role in shaping strong, resilient communities.

“Let’s keep building on what works, together.”
