Morrisons Helps Support Vulnerable Residents

Local supermarket Morrisons are helping the community again by supporting the By Your Side project run by Thurrock CVS.   By Your Side helps people settle back into their homes following a short stay in hospital.  Without any other support, many residents in Thurrock can find going back home and reconnecting to their communities can be difficult and overwhelming.   A referral from hospital sees the volunteer supported By Your Side team tasked with picking up essential shopping and making welfare calls to ensure people are helped with day to day needs.  The service is free and can last up to 6 weeks.

Helping people in this way can often reduce the risk of re-admissions plus frees up hospital beds quicker.   One of the initial things By Your Side does is to provide a small welcome home hamper with tea, coffee, milk and easy to prepare meal for the resident returning home.   Morrisons in Grays was approached to see if they would like to support the service by providing this welcome home hamper.

Tarnya Bennett, Community Champion said “Ruby and the By Your Side team provide a fantastic service and if Morrisons can help, we are more than happy to do so”

Kristina Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, Thurrock CVS said “By Your Side provides not just an essential service but a cost saving one that social work teams and local hospitals benefit from.  We are so grateful that again local businesses are supporting these on the ground services that are looking after our residents”
